Boost to Transperth security systems

Post by yorky »

http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/wa ... y-systems/

Article today, seems like a good idea its all in one spot now.

I had to laugh at how they have 1000+ cameras and sport that they can now pickup more naughty business but there are only 20 odd seats for staff to watch the cameras? Far cry from looking at 1000 cameras at once.

This would have been useful when I was ramdomly assaulted at West Leederville in Sept last year. The cops looked at the video footage but claimed it was too dark and fuzzy to be able to identify anyone.

I guess they wait and see how many people get belted at train stations before they invest the money to protect people!

Cameras only show and record, security and police prevent and control.

Because crims seem to be attracted to public transport like flies to a BBQ the only real solution is an increased security presence.

They also mentioned an increased guard presence but who knows if that is just PR fluff as they seem to say it all the time...

You'd probably find that all the cameras are recording and the footage is held for a period of time should it be required, its unrealistic to have somone looking at that many cameras however it is good to know that footage at the stations would/could be available.

Yes they did state that they are recording, however you just have to pray they are pointing in the right direction.

Transperth holds all footage for 28 days before it is overwritten.

If this center runs the 9220 9999 than I have nothing but praise for them. Today I had the 'unfortunate' to deal with them in reporting an incident.

With the information given, it took approx 30 seconds for the train to 'slow' for what I presume was getting the required 'infrastructure' in place.

Upon arrival at Perth Station - 6 Transit Officers were there to meet the train, fortunate the incident had already been dealt with.

What peeved me off was that the passengers on the train 'who did nothing' just complained and bitched in regarding to the Transit Officers calling them wanna be cops etc [I would like to see them do that job!] was annoying.

But the system works and is well organized and it works!
I've closed the door!
