Yeah... EMU's have a tendency to stop when the power fails... At least (unlike a diesel engine failure which would be equally catastrophic if our trains were still being hauled by diesel) the problem can be easily pinpointed and fixed

I would have thought the train grid would have multiple power entry points... strange that the entire grid came to a halt.

I thought it did have multiple power? When your on the armadale line just near claisebrook you'll see why, but.. then again if you have live trains and dead trains! ...
I've closed the door!

Train Lines - Disruptions

I think it's more to do with distance... The multiple points are needed because one simply does not cover enough distance to power the whole grid (especially with the Mandurah line!). If one power entry point fails the area it is in becomes unpowered because the neighboring entry points simply cannot cover it due to energy loss over distance. If they transmitted the power at something like 0.01 amps then maybe one could cover the whole network; but you would need a transformer array larger than the train itself to get anything usable out of it!

All the Depot's are not connected to the main lines, the trains have to coast through a neutral section when entering the depots

Now that's just asking for a train to get stuck there!

My train driver friend told me that the pantograph broke on one of the sets and in doing so it damaged the overhead.

Think about it... You have fully exposed overhead wires carrying 10,000 volts at god knows how many kilo-amps driving trains weighing in at several tons unloaded with a computer being the only link between the driver and the train...

It isn't really going to get any safer if the depot wires are isolated...

What the heck happened on the midland line this morning? The line was LOCKED DOWN and police were searching the trains at almost EVERY station! Does anyone have any insight beyond a "Security issue" on this?
