From The West Australian website:

http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/br ... n-suburbs/
A driver was forced to flee from a Transperth bus when it burst into flames in Yokine this afternoon throwing a quiet suburban street into disarray.

The incident occurred about 2.30pm at the intersection of Raymond Street and Hayes Street near the West Australian Golf Club.

Thanks Richard, gee gas tanks look big.

15 mins after the incident i was talking to the transperth info line about bus times, and mentioned that I saw the bus fire on 7 News, the guys said "who told you that" and then said "nope, we would have heard about it otherwise".????

Wonder how they are going to clean it up? or transport that thing away?, its not like it can be put on a bus tip tow truck......

I would speculate it just gets put on a large flatbed, maybe by crane, again just speculating. At worst placed as an oversized load on a truck.

Got to say though it barely looks like a bus anymore, half of it has simply turned to smoke #-o

One things for sure though, the driver won't need to tell the depot that the data/card readers are out of order
"VKI, NJ050 will you be attending the job?"
"Negative VKI, my desk is bolted to the floor".

There is no timber floors on the Mercedes Benz 0405OC varients. The problem more than likely resulted in the CNG fuel system which runs alot hotter than the diesel varients.

Bus mentioned is/was TP 1854

Apparently the problem was leaking hot oil in the engine compartment, this has also been the reason for a previous fire on a gas bus.

Split pipe leaked hot oil onto hot turbo. Same as with 1877 1610 and 1297

The previous fires were caused by poor welding quality used in the design of the turbocharger oil supply line. This design fault was the subject of a massive Australia-wide recall shortly after the fire on 1610. The line was prone to rupture and when hot oil leaks onto a hot turbocharger, the inevitable is bound to occur. I suspect that the fires wouldn't have occured if this oil supply line was rerouted so that any leaking fluids would leak directly onto the road.

Believe that 1854 was something different, but ties in with the above.

Thanks for that written_fiction. I agree with re-routing the oil line, could work quite well
