Has anyone heard this channel before? I was out in Midland today and every 5 minutes it made this strange noise and lasted only 5 seconds but its very annoying.

Cheers

Sounds like a pager to me. They transmit constantly across a large amount of frequences all within a similar band. (This explains the break on one frequency, as the system shifts to another and back again).

The strange data noise you are hearing is POCSAG (do a google search) and it transmits data to pagers who decode it and display the text message.
