WA Radio Scanner Users' Group

Anyone know if the Path Transit bus's have changed radio's or channels recently? On the drive into work this morning there wasn't a word spoken on 490.xxx channels

They have got a new radio upgrade their new frequencies are:

490.450 Morley depot

490.900 Karrrinup and Joondalup depot

Hello everyone,

From last night (Thursday 6th, August) at around 6:30pm I have not been able to recieve any PATH Transit channels, (490.900-Karrinyup/Joondalup or 490.450-Morley). I listen to these two channels everyday and would greatly appreciate help on this, such as if the frequencies have changed etc.

I listened to them on the way to and from the office today, I turned it off only 60 minutes ago so it sounds like a problem on your end

I was literning to trans perth security last night and they changed to ch 26 simplex.Could some one please explaine this fore me.THANKS

If I understand your question I think you are asking what does simplex mean? Well in my basic understanding of it is that the guys can use thier radios two ways with one of those ways (or modes) being simplex. This means that each radio is only transmitting and receiving with the radios around it, within the range of the radio itself. The other way is to transmit through what is called a repeater which is basically a transceiver that amplifies your transmission, increases the signal strength and then rebroadcasts it so it can be received or "heard" further away. Switching from repeater mode to simplex mode simply means that the guys working close by to each other can communicate without everybody else on the repeater network being able to, or having to, listen in on the job.

When an officer boards a bus and his partner escorts behind in a tango vehicle they will sometimes change their radios to channel 26 (simplex) so they can talk without interruption and without having to worry about bad reception (they introduced this as many areas have extremely poor reception - midland, joondalup, freo, rocky etc.) Its also sometimes used when two nearby vehicles want to communicate without broadcasting over the main PTA channel.

With Path Transit they also talk about a 'Channel 3' which I can only assume is a simplex as well as only two repeater channels are listed for them?

Not sure what the simplex freq is but signal only goes about 1.5kms and is not used too often anyways

Sorry for coming in late, but Ch 3 for Path is the Circle Route frequency (472.750 MHz).
