Not sure but perhaps they use the Westrail VHF channels?

I've done a bit of searching - with both radio and computer - and found (i.e heard) Westnet Rail on 418.400 and Pacific National on 418.950.

ok here's my effort for the day to get this thread back in order.

Westrail was no longer as of about year 2000. The freight business was sold to a new company called Australian Railroad Group (ARG). In the early days they were known as Australian Western Railroad (AWR) so you may see that name on ACA etc. The freight track was leased to a new entity (also under ARG) called Westnet Rail.

PTA is the overall body for Transwa (country bus and Prospector, Australind trains) and Transperth. This is really the new 'WAGR'.

Here are some frequencies, feel free to state any corrections, additions etc:

Nachoman,

Fantastic! That's just the sort of thing we need.

If you have no objections, I'll turn that into a nice PDF in the style of the other ones for Police, St John Ambulance, FESA and the old Westrail one. That way there's a nice handy list that people can print out :-)

Cheers,

Since Late December 2000 the WA Govt. Sold Westrail Freight and they became ARG: ARG Website www.arg.net.au

The government kept the Passenger division which was renamed WAGR but is now known as the Public Transport Authority: www.pta.wa.gov.au who trade as Transperth/Transwa

From what I can work out now the controllers now are:

Eastern Control: From Canningvale to Avon
Central Control: From Avon/Northam to Merredin
Avon Control: Avon Yard and Merredin Yard
GSR (Great Southern Railways): Merredin to West Kalgoorlie

Can anyone please confirm this is correct and who operates the West Kalgoorlie/Kalgoorlie operations and Kallgoorlie to Esperance line and Avon to Albany line?

The Prospector will use the Control channel for whatever area it is in, ie Metro Control: East Perth to Midland, Eastern Control: Midland/Forrestfield to Northam, Central: Northam to Kalgoorlie?

see the above frequencies for a guide and report any updates as I haven't been east of Northam since Merredin and Northam Control was collapsed into Central or whatever they did.

AWR Control Channels

Post by A1501 »

These are the control voting channels used by trains travelling from Perth/ Forrestfield to West Kalgoorlie:

CH52 - EASTERN CONTROL - F/F to Avon
419.025
419.050
419.075
419.100

CH51 - CENTRAL CONTROL Avon to W. Merredin
418.100
418.125
418.150
418.175
418.200
418.250

CH55 - MERREDIN CONTROL W.Merredin to Southern X
418.775
418.800
418.850

CH54 - MERREDIN CONTROL Southern X to West Kal.
418.650
418.725
418.750
418.775

(CH54 and 55 are linked and Merredin Control is now operated from Avon, also known as EGR Control)

The following are local/ shunting channels used along the route:
CH50 - Roll-by (train to train)
450.050

CH7 - Signal Cabins at Avon Yard and West Kal. (Also used for shunting)
418.275

CH17 - Yard shunting
418.575

CH27 - Yard shunting
418.875

Past Kalgoorlie, trains are handled by ARTC Control in Adelaide.
ARTC UHF CH5 can be heard on 418.600 in the Kalgoorlie/ Parkeston area. The train to train communications utilise VHF CH2 - 168.580.
Also keep an ear out on GSR88 - 410.825, this channel is used extensively by crews talking to each other between the loco and crew coach. Also used for on board coms. on the Indian Pacific passenger train.

I apologise if I seem to have repeated info from other posts, but I think this puts it all in perspective. I hope it helps :)
