The old WAGR Network fremantle mashling yards.

Post by slipknot »

Hi all , I was reading on wikipedia about the non electric part of the railway system in WA.
Very interesting, I also saw the old mashling yards in fremantle where the wagr building there is. Just wondering if anyone knows about this building? , the one where theres that huge spotting tower on the coast there.
this is a pic of it from wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Leigh ... tralia.jpg

Im not saying i would break into this building but just for sakes sake lets say you went in there, i wounder if there would be anything still in it say old documents, office paper work or mayby even controlls for the rail system ect.

I'm pretty certain that when the yards were decommissioned, the inside of the building would have been stripped. I very much doubt there'd be anything left. At best there might be a few miscellaneous scraps of paper, but I seriously doubt it'd be anything too interesting.

i found an interesting article here about another one of the towers, built in the same style.

EDIT: wrong link sorry , in fact is you search around yould find a whole bunch of info and good pics of the signal cranks and the electronic signal consoles.

in fact this guy has made a massive amount of pages on the whole system, im drueling i can hardly speak,

theres even pics of the claremont abandoned signaling cabin at claremont station, inside theres a pic of all the leavers.

thats one of many articales of nearly all the signaling cabins

this seams to show a list of all the signaling cabins, this is the best link, i found much easier to navigate, basicly lick on the photos , that will take you there, not all of them work but the ones with articles will.http://www.starwon.com.au/~cfrench/Sign ... Cabins.htm

The big light tower was removed a few months ago.
