Maybe a trip to Queensland to visit the manufacturers to do some OEM training one on one.

At least its understandable.

I'm sure things have improved but when I lived in Sydney, a lot of the audio was busted, either too quite, or mostly distorted and buzzy, and when you did get a good one you could always get a very fast speaker or someone who clipped off both ends or pronounced places differently.

Is it really a button and not linked to the signal blocks?

From my visit to the driver many moons ago, it was a button. it auto-magically knows the stations and he presses it at the correct times.
"VKI, NJ050 will you be attending the job?"
"Negative VKI, my desk is bolted to the floor".

I think the doors closing announcement is tied in with the close doors button, because on weekends sometimes no one will get on or off at the station and there's no doors closing announcement.
Definately not track or position contolled either because at times the driver doesn't even push the button to announce the next stop...a right pain when you're in the middle of a good book!

Yes it is the door close button. The driver pushes another time when the train approaches the next station. I got to go for a ride in the cockpit one day.

Drivers Cab,

Cockpit is considered sexist. So the cockpit on the plane is now called a FLIGHT DECK
