Go for a ride along with some train riders on a friday night and see if you have the same opinion.

Its like me saying that all coppers do is walk around northbridge doing nothing, because thats what I see them doing.

LOL...

Reality Transit Officer program may be to much for the tax paying public... they would see Transit Officers searching people, arresting people and braking up fights. Dealing with drugs, (as opposed to dealing drugs), weapons and violent recidivist offenders on all the rail networks.

The PTA dosen't want that view of the rail network exposed to the public, as they still believe that Transit Officers core function is customer service. The public might find out that there is no as many Transit Officer as they think... with the smoke screen created by Chubb and Wilson, and the grief they cause on the radio net.

well thats my 2cents

Being a post-regular train user I agree, I used to see the same guards at all hours of the day and night. They do an alright job though, always quick to stop any flare-ups.

I heard 'someone' asking for personal details on a rail freq a few weeks back and 'someone else' respond with the personal details. For a while I thought I'd accidentally dialed up VKI, but it was definitely rail. Do rail cops use rail freqs for this sort of thing? The details were some guy's name, age, address, basic history.. the sort of stuff you wouldn't expect a rail guard to ask for, or get.

I think what playworth is trying to say is that Transit Officers have access through their 'shift commander' to police databases to check for bench warrants and that sort of thing. So it was definatley the rail channels that you picked up on.

Like a police officer, it is an offence to refuse to give a TO your name and DOB or to give false information and if your being a real bastard about it, they might just chuck the cuffs on you.

Thanks. I was struggling :-)

The more you know. Can't say I know what a TO looks like. I hope they have the authority to take taggers into custody (like the little prods that were on the news tonight)

Dark blue shirt, cargo pants, distinctive bottle of OC on the duty belt - pretty hard to miss them. Can tell them apart from the ticket check chubbs by the writing on the arm patch - chubbs have 'revenue protection' on them.

Also they seem to be wearing high-vis vests with the big lettered "TRANSIT OFFICER" on the back :D

As for taking taggers into custody - they will arrest anyone for any crime committed on railway property. Then whether they prosecute themselves or pass it on to WAPOL (PRU) will usually depend on the seriousness of the crime. Ive been told that if they can pass it on to PRU then they will as TO's dont get paid overtime to write up briefs etc.

Hope that helps you robbage.

bright orange vests

Post by cat1 »

:D what's the deal with those orange vests anyway? Is the pta trying to make them look more like police officers or just to differentiate them from the chubbies? Some transits seem to wear them and some don't.
