I was speaking to a transperth person about the new "smartrider" ticketing system and I was told that once it is fully operational there will be no need for cash concession fares

Yup. If students misbehave on buses and trains then their card can be set so the fare is a normal child ticket, and they can explain to their parents why it costs more than 50 cents to get to school all of a sudden. Lovely system :-)

bus drivers can't confiscate the card but can write the details down and pass it on. In theory, if you don't have a consession smartrider you should'nt be able to get concession fares.Good theory, but the drivers wont bother inforcing it. They don't have the time or back up if anyone wants to dispute it

Thats all good and well but what happens when a driver dislikes a student and does this? I think they should have to prove this before it can be done. Otherwise it is just bastardisation. Absolute crock of shit if you ask me.

bus drivers can't set it. It has to be done by PTA. Drivers have to fill out incident forms and then hand it to their boss who then handles it from there

Nuh mate, as I know it, what actually happens is that the students can get a fine for indecent behaviour. The driver must fill out a report and must have a witness which can be a pain in the rear end. Often the CCTV cameras onboard a bus are used to prove such an act. The student will be let off, however the image of the person will come up on the database, and if the SR number of the student has been noted (or the driver knows the stop the person tagged off, it can be traced) and the PTA will then take action by contacting THE SCHOOL (if a school special, or the person is in school uniform). They will issue a warning to the student, with a fine, who can go to court if they wish to argue the matter. Then the person could loose their student privaleges, and their SR card confisgated. Were the student has no student ID.

The PTA cannot actually make a STUDENT pay a ADULT fare if they have a STUDENT SR. However by taking their SR they can make life tough
