Apparantly TransPerth used to run double-decker busses...

Post by doggie015 »

I've stumbled across these images... Image Image

Why did TransPerth stop using these busses? With overcrowding becoming a real problem on many bus routes they should really start using them again... at least as a stopgap until light rail comes in!

They used to run the mandurah Perth line before trains were invented.

Mandurah and Perth weren't invented before trains were invented.

Besides which; the question I am asking is why they STOPPED running them!

These weren't hop-on, hop-off busses. They were coaches, and went from Mandurah to Perth almost nonstop.

Jezza has pretty much summed it up.

They were a Coach, not a route service bus. They had a 12L V8 Engine designed for coaches. They had coach seating and were equipped with toilets for long distance work. They are not designed for stop-start work.
6ST Base is clear, is there a mobile calling on this channel?

It's a shame really... If they had some double deckers designed for stop-start work on heavily trafficked routes like the circleroute then there would be less demand for trains because the busses are too crowded!

Isn't that really why they purchased more artics? Maybe not at the capacity of a double but still.

Better than nothing I guess... If only they actually ran the artics on the routes with frequently crowded/standing-room-only busses such as the 37 (Trust me; it is an absolute NIGHTMARE to find a seat... and this is only at about 1/5th of the journey from the domestic airport to the CBD!)

Man, the Mandurah Train Station hasn't changed at all since that first photo was taken!
