Hi Guys,
I'm looking at purchasing a Radio Scanner for around $100-$150 and would like to know what models you recommend. Also, I would be interested to know what frequencies I would pick up in the Kingsley/Woodvale area. Any information on aviation frequencies would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Luke

Re: Frequency Information
This scanner is a reasonable hand held scanner for the price ($99). I also like it because I can charge it from any 5v to 24v power supply (including USB) with the right adaptor.
I recommend you look at the frequency lists already posted on this forum and see which ones you can receive. I have no problems receiving a couple of FESA repeaters and Perth airport in the northern suburbs with the rubber ducky antenna it comes with. A better antenna will give you better coverage.
You can check out scanners at prestigecom.net.au They usually have better prices than Dick Smith but their website seems to be not working for me right now.

Be sure to check my short list http://warsug.info/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=8974 I'm up that way as well so feel free to ask questions.
Aviation isn't to crash hot unless you are up high. You will get aircraft transmissions but not much ground to air comms.
Edit: actually reminds me I should update FESA a bit.

Re: Frequency Information
In Ballajura I can receive well using just the rubber ducky antenna:
Perth Departures on 118.700 MHz
Melbourne Centre on 122.400 MHz
Receive faintly:
Melb Centre on 120.300 MHz
Perth RADAR on 135.250 MHz
Perth Tower on 120.500 MHz
Perth Approach on 123.600 MHz
With the outdoor antenna I can pick up all the Perth frequencies well. Pearce is OK and Jandakot is weak but readable.

Hey Rob,
Could you please advise on the details of the OUTDOOR ANTENNA. Also, did it come with the radio or is it Uniden Accessory?
Thanks,
Luke

Re: Frequency Information
No, my outdoor antenna is my VHF/UHF amateur radio antenna. Any outdoor VHF antenna would do though. You might be interested in this one or this one
The first one has cable already attached whereas the second one needs a separate cable.
