So fly guy, can you assist with a site and repeater, or at least with the price of a simplex VHF frequency that we can have access to in the metro area? Those who can't afford to be a part of it at first can just monitor the frequency, then when funds are available they can cough up some bucks toward the license and transmit along with the group. Just a thought - lots of ppl on here like their radios, like scanning and like a chat. We all know how instant radio is, so this would be perfect.

Gav, wmn, you guys have any thoughts of the most efficient (erm.. cheap yet effective) way to do something like this?.

I know zip about amateur radio, but I would imagine local amateur operators won't want a bunch of warsug members banging on about scanning on their freqs (licensed of course!), unless there a several "channels" / frequencies available and maybe a simplex freq is often free..?

In the meantime, anyone on the forum wanna nominate a simplex UHF channel that we could all monitor in the off chance we can actually contact another forum member? Maybe UHF 21 ? A standard shoutout occasionally to see if someone is around? WARSUG ??

PER01 is generally not that bad... weekends it sees a bit of a hammering but weekday evenings it's usually usable...

Scanner talk-back

Post by Lucas_arts_182 »

hi ,
channel 1, 3 , or 8 repeaters are a waste of time , im a UHF operator in the wanneroo area and when ever anything organised have take place on uhf repeaters its turned to S**T in the first few minutes of starting.
My suggestion is to either use a UHF simplex channel with CTCSS on , or hire a frequency from the ACMA , im not 100% sure but i think you can push more power on a commercial freq. (possibley up to 25watt , im not sure) witch would allow for better distance and less dickheads.
the only down-side to that is the cost.

guys , you are going a bit over the top with repeaters and private freq.
lets come back down to earth and stay with the origanal idea.
With the legal side of things , it should be fine because ANYONE calisten on a scanner right now anyway , when they go digital its a different story for a different day.
and channel 3 and 8 would be a waist of time because of the need to battel dickheads on there, your best option is UHF CB simplex like channel 15 or 20.

Im not trying to be a know-it-all here but im just letting you all know as a mate that you would be waisting you time money and resouces.

cheers
