Advise on which scanner to buy to pickup WAPolice etc?
Hi, I'm new (well, 5 minutes old) to this site. My family want to buy me a scanner for Fathers day to listen to police and other emergency services. I went to a few shops today and received so much bul%$^% that I am now more confused. Can anyone tell me what type of scanner will do what I want without breaking the bank?

Thanks JJ
Thanks JJ, its annoying, when I went to 2 Dick Smith stores, Tandys AND JB and all said, yes, it will work with the Digital scanners, not with analog, of course that means spending $1000 instead of $300, just as well I didn't end up getting one, or someone would have had it "inserted"!

They know exactly what the deal is, but admitting it doesn't sell the product.wesso wrote:No one at any of the major electronic stores seems to know what the deal is!

Uhm...illegal? Not something you really want to be posting as a recommendation, or for that matter even listening to.playworth wrote: cordless phones
If you come down to Tassie you can hear the Tas Pol on EDACS still. I'm curious to know what system is used by ambulances in WA and how they dispatch as we in Tassie are wondering what the future of the ambos will be, that plus the fire brigade. We have suspected that APCO 25 is the future??
Also yes buses, councils, trains (boring in tassie), security services, taxis, aircraft, marine, couriers.

WA Ambo's use MDT data screens for the jobs, and only reply on the radio that they are going to the job, or simply hitting selcall to acknowledge. Rest is done on the screen.
Fire is also MDT and analogue radio.

What is MDT? We use a selcall down here, its a 2 tone system. The same goes with our ambos they will use their radios for case chats.
