Crib?

Post by Matsky »

I'm always hearing the cops talk about going for their crib over the scanner and I know it means a meal break, but what exactly is the origin of the word? I've heard "crib room" used outside of the police before, but that's it.

I heard that from two coppers... one being an uncle. I guess it's right.

The term also seems to be in fairly widespread use in the railways as well...

I was told that crib was a card game that was played while people took their breaks in the early days. Dont know how true it is but maybe someone has heard of the game crib.

...After I wrote this I looked at Walks post. Next time I will pay more attention. Woops
