Even though its a bit off topic thought I'd add:

From memory, the highway services vehicles in the UK have individual buttons for each of the lights, a "Park" button, which activates all of them, and a priority button which activates all lights and siren.

All FRS vehicles I have seen have only three settings - off, lights only or lights and siren.

I remember servicing the Mukinbudin and Bonnie Rock fire trucks, they had a simple 3 button pad, Off Park and Drive

i know the BFS LT's have OFF - PARK - RESPOND. off is obvious, park just has the lights going and respond is lights and sirens. you can't run the siren independantly.

i've seen ICV's that can run the siren without the lights. i also know of different control panels in 2.4's / 4.4's etc that can run sirens without lights and even turn on/off different lights - ie beacons only or front/rear strobes only etc

i live near the gozzy ambo depot and frequently see them turn out at night without sirens on, just lights - its a great SOP IMO.

as for the sirens / no ligths - i think it must've just been a wiring issue or hit the wrong button - very easy to do.

From experience, they most probably did'nt know that the lights weren't on, an easy mistake to make as the switches on the panel are separate.

Like I said before, there have been occasions where the sirens have been stuck on, there are plenty of theory's we can come up with.

Its against SJA SOP to go P1 with out the lights on.

I think this topic has been discussed past the original question.
