I must say when I flicked past the channels and listened to a few quick 89's there was no longer any annoying sellcall beeps I'm guessing if they have digital in the van's that it silently idents to the dispatcher?

Ive been running analogue and digital side by side and in the time i have been listening all 6DS digital transmissions have been encrypted and around 90% of the mobile transmissions have also been encrypted. I think that it shouldn't be too long before SJA goes silent on our receivers.

SJA is in the final stages of testing the encrypted digital radio system.

It won't be much longer until all analogue scanners will become expensive paper weights..........

Yeah, whilst I found SJA ops interesting, in the scheme of things it won't be a great loss as most of the interesting information was passed via data terminal anyway. It will be a good thing for the operators to be able to "speak freely".

SJA VFAS - are also being upgraded - however, it is expected our systems will stay UN-encrypted for now.

Agreed. Really the SJA don't say anything that much as it is so I'm not exactly sure why they've gone with P25 digital - unless it's to join on with the encryption bandwagon. Their analogue radios sounded far clearer and although digital can occasionally sound like, "wow it sounds amazing" but mostly it's more like "drowning robot"

Ahh... the joys of low quality MPEG audio streams :)
Compressed so hard that it produces the robot sounding voices...

I was listening on the way in to work today... sounds like they've cut the dispatcher's audio over to the digital network (the drop in audio quality was noticeable!)

So not long now and they'll be flipping the switch to kill off analogue 6DS.
