Yer i know haha on channel 10 they had the NSW fat ambulance which is going to be on the road soon.

They have alot of fat people in victoria and im talking 150kg plus. There is one guy in clayton who tops the 200kg mark it was going to cost 1 million dollars just to build a special room at the hospital for him.

The rift is nothing new over there, now that the government reconigses offically private services the unions worried about jobs etc in the future.

The comments on the site is interesting reading !!!

Seems like you cant trust pollies maybe sja should be more carefull if they lost there cash cow back to doing first aid only !!

i suppose they need stuff like that as there are huge people out there, but even still, it is pretty crazy to build a super ambulance for it :)

Was on the radio last week that there are safety issues still outstanding so the AO won't use it as yet.

For your Info,

SJAA just acquired a brand spanking new Bariatric Ambulance. I managed to get a few quick pics on the iPhone but the shed it was parked in was really tiny so no distance shots.
been in service for less than 2 days (as at 22/4/10)
Even though it is new, there is a newer model in the pipeline.
lil bitta info for ya.

Holds 600kg, automated trolley weighs about 110kg on its own and can hold up to 500kg patients. once the casualty is on the bed all lifting is automated.

shell built primarily of Carbon-fiber

Also able to contain Hazchem/bioHaz patients as the rear treatment area is fully sealed (and has it's own FM radio, intercom and phone. Digital BP cuffs, clocks and temperature gauge. i think there was a PulseOx hooked up too (didn't really look)

No more ramps or lifting, simply line up the trolley and click it it, the hydraulics do the rest.
Even a Hydraulic Hiab/crane for the specialized onboard wheelchair.

Customized Electronic system, touch screen to control Aircon/fan/ventilation speeds, beacons and siren. Has a dedicated "respond" button lower right of the screen.

Cost $well, dunno if im allowed to say [-X but maybe you can look that up.

there is a Code name for this vehicle, I wonder if anyone can guess what it is? :-#

Looks impressive, and I saw this on Saturday when I was washing a VFAS vehicle in preperation for ANZAC Day... From the not too distant location, it looked impressive.

The idea is that the normal ambulance will respond to the call, and when the get there and realize that they need this ambulance, another crew will be dispatched in this one, then there will be at least 4 officers at the scene, and cause we love to get the fireies out of bed, they are always keen to lend a hand if needed.
