Re: RESCUE 65 Observations
I saw R65 yesterday morning hovering about Rocky foreshore up & down the coastline for at least a good hour. Anyone know why?

Re: RESCUE 65 Observations
Last time I flew the distance did not display on the ADF?? The ADF basically "points" to the Beacon (NDB). The ADF is interpreted by he Pilot based on the angle of the "pointer" to the NDB - the aircraft always sits on the tail of the "pointer" or needle.AO11912 wrote:Basiclly a Non precission Approach, where you follow a distance from the NBD, which displays on the ADF (Automatic Direction Finder) in the flight deck, till you can see the runway enough to land on it
You usually have a combined NDB/DME approach if you are going to use distances or a GPS-NPA...

Re: RESCUE 65 Observations
Just read in the local rag they were involved in a practice operation with our local sea rescue down here involving flares & a liferaft. Solved my own mystery!Chicky wrote:I saw R65 yesterday morning hovering about Rocky foreshore up & down the coastline for at least a good hour. Anyone know why?

Re: RESCUE 65 Observations
I filmed Rescue 65 landing at Charlies at 2am this morning. It was coming from Rotto.
To my surprise it wasnt the RAC chopper but a white one with a blue tail and red stripes on it.
Anyone know of it?

Re: RESCUE 65 Observations
Possibly? Havent seen it before - might put up a clip when I get the tape back. The call sign was still "Rescue 65" if that means anything.

Re: RESCUE 65 Observations
I heard on the news they have stopped using the fixed wing aircraft to do shark patrols over the beach as most of the pilots have been snapped up by the mining boom. The Lifesaving heli looks like it is going to take over patrols...
