Germany (and a lot of other European countries) still have the old NeeNaw sirens. The electronic ones are OK, the compressed air ones are KICK ASS :) but if you have the two-tones on for a long time they become monotonous and lose the 'alarming' effect. Studies have apparently shown that wail/yelp is the way to go.

Mind you the Ambulance rocks as well. Its massive plus the air horn would move traffic.

An ambulance builder over east is building one on a GMC4500 chassis so be interesting to see where it goes, a little bird told me should be in the west sometime

Talking About Lights and Sirens. Western Power now have emergency response truck fully equipped for P1 flashes sirens and all. Seem them once helping the firefighters manage a poll top fire.

And they have the worst sounding siren, as quoted by someone else here it sounds like someone strangling a cat
"VKI, NJ050 will you be attending the job?"
"Negative VKI, my desk is bolted to the floor".

If you can hear the siren. I've only noticed them when I've seen the lights in my rearview mirror. and then 15 metres away from me.

Speaking of sirens, one on the ALAS Fleet sounds a lil ... errrr ... Yeh haha.

And some of the new LT's sirens sound a lil dodge at times also.
