Oh tru thanks for that info there-sounds like SJA are heading the same way with rural as they do in victoria with there "community/casual ambulance officers" same as volunteers but they get an hourly rate of pay when on a call, and usually have a local paramedic for support etc.

Definatley a good idea on SJA behalf i can imagine in some areas numbers maybe dwindling and with the size of our state it would be a crazy idea and definatley costly to have a paramedic at every country depot (not only that some depots youd need a hobby considering there workload maybe minimal)

But show some pics anyways !!!! is it a manual or auto 4wd merc ?

The new one has a clutch!! But gear stick is in same place as the current mercs. Looks basically the same as the old mercs, except sits a hell of alot higher on the road A pic can be found of one similar here:

There's only 1 4WD Merc at present and its at Port Headland being trialled by the paramedic crew. They will become available to all counry centres but ain't cheap

Word is, it might be better to get a 4WD cab chass and put a box setup on the back (Paull and Warner already do this for mine sites)

We thought about that, the 4WD set up, but St John HQ said there is no way they would endorse us having it, or insure it for our use. We paid alot of money for our new 4WD ambulance, not sure on how long it's going to take to get here. :P

The cab chassis ambulance module is $120,000 plus obviously on top whatever the cab chassis will actually cost you as well, paul & warner now actually buy them pre fabricated by Superior and make changes to that module to suit how they set them up for W.A.

Yep the St and Mercedes had the big hand shake a few years back and therefore talk down any other options when it comes to ambulances and their layouts.

It's going to become a real issue for some sub centres to try to keep these vehicles running and covered by warranty. A mercedes service centre in the middle of WA?? and one who can afford to buy the Tablet Computer required to service it, even harder I would think

Like the "free" roadside assist for the first 3yrs is for metro only

I'd heard $120,000'ish for the finished product. Although not 100% sure :D

Ford F250, Nissan Patrol, Toyota all used by mines and straight from the shop floor most likely. I think the high end Ford goes for about $80,000.

$120,000  if thats true thats a bargain-superior industries charge $90,000 Ambulance module only complete including fitting onto the vehicle (f-series cab chassis is $60,000 on top but is no longer imported at this stage and ud be hard pressed finding one)

Do SJA charge subcentres for the ex metro fleet vans or do they "give them" to them and curious what they would flogg them off for to a poor sub centre.

Since the Mercedes hand shake St John askes the volunteer sub centres to give them there old fords to sell and then sells the old metro Merc's to them at a "special price"

All of the early model merc's with the "baseball cap" lights across the front or sliding windows in the back are the real crap ones, they just sit at the St John workshops because all the metro crews refuse to work in them. The saint then tells the volunteer sub centre what a great vehicle it is and flogs it off to them.

There are no Ford's left in the St John fleet (that is centres staffed by paid paramedics) which includes both metro and country.

The only exception I'm aware of is Kalgoorlie who still has a Green 7.5lt Turbo Diesel Ford which they had to buy from St John  and Northam and Busselton who have just moved over to include paid paramedics

We have just got an old merc, we sold off our old ford and then St John let us pay for it with the money we sold it for. It has done over 240,000km's. It looks good but we have spent alot of money on it as it came with numerous problems.
