I guess it should all stop here and everyone agree to disagree on this topic. Probably the easiest thing to do rather than argue it till the cows come home.

See this is what gets me so confused - the story states the defendents are actually
Surf Life Saving Australia and the Lorne Surf Life Saving Club are named as co-defendants in the lawsuit.
So how does this implicate SJA? And didn't know we had SJA in Queensland... Isn't it the QAS (Queensland Ambulance Service)??

If people who volunteer to go out of their way to help and then because things go wrong (not because of bad treatment) - why do people jump on the High Horse and sue Volunteers out to help..??? Sooner or later, the world will lose volunteers, and I'd like to see what would happen then!

SJA is world-wide.. just 'coz they don't run the ambulance service in QLD, doesn't mean they aren't running in QLD?

There are laws to protect many volunteers. Not sure what the story is with ppl like SJA members, however, Vollie FF's in WA are legally not liable for any action as long as it was performed 'in good faith'.

Think you'll find if you have a closer read that she was attending the surf carnival at Lorne in Victoria so it's SJA Victoria that's in hot water. SJA QLD is first aid training/kits and volunteers. QAS run the state ambulance service. Who knows what's going on here but I don't think that the volunteers would have operated outside of their scope of practice. I'd like to know how they were negligent and made the condition worse by rushing to her aid?

Worlds gone crazy i think. Doesn't exactly encourage people to volunteer or even learn first aid.

The article is misleading to a point.

Im assuming both Surf Life Saving Club & SJA are being sued.

If she didnt like the treatment she shouldve declined it and whos not to say the damage was done from her injury not from the treatment and shes trying to cover her ass.

Without releasing too much info - There is a dedicated "Fire Call Out" list update yearly - for people who would like to be called upon.

In saying this, if the fire is on the South - example - Baldivis fire recently - Our State Officer calls people who live in the southern suburbs, or closest to respond.

I was just extra lucky that alot of others were already on duty elsewhere ;)
