Significant bush fires 2013/14

Post by vk6hgr »

This thread is predominantly for third alarm and above bush fires however if it is a significant fire (ie threatening homes and businesses) that is at least second alarm then it will be acceptable. If it's not one of those things then post it in one of the other, more appropriate threads.

Remember also that quoting others has been disabled in this thread and WILL NOT WORK.

Please keep the posts to factual information - not rumour, hearsay, possibilities, theories etc. Also keep the information brief and to the point.

Questions about what is going on, who is turning out, why someone isn't turning out etc should be done in the general fire discussions thread.

Posts to this thread will also be auto-posted to Twitter. If you use Twitter, feel free to follow @WARSUG

Thankyou for your cooperation.

4 fires are apparently going, Tooday Dep 2 requesting Northam ROC to be notified.

The fire started near Bonniefield Road East and was burning towards the Brand Highway. The fire has jumped the highway and is burning towards the ocean.

There is a possible threat to lives and homes as a fire is approaching the area and conditions are changing.

You need to leave or get ready to actively defend.

ROAD CLOSURES:

A number of roads have been closed including:
Brand Highway is closed from the Mount Horner West Road intersection to the Showground Road intersection

BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR:
The bushfire is moving slowly in a south westerly direction.

It is out of control and unpredictable.

Burning embers are likely to be blown around your home and spot fires are starting up to 200 metres ahead of the fire.

Flames are up to eight metres high.

Approximately 600 hectares have been burnt.

The fire was reported at 8.07am today.

WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING:
Thirty volunteer Bushfire Service firefighters are on the scene protecting assests.

Two fixed wing water bombers are on standby to assist ground crews if required.

Loaders, grazers and dozers are constructing containment lines.

CAUSE:
The cause of the fire is lightning.
