i guess the reason secureforce have lights on their vechles is for safety,as they are in the same areas where buses are ie. busport,stations etc. etc. and if there is a problem on a bus to warn moterists that they and a bus have stopped on the road,dazla i suppose that emergency vechles such as western power would have to do some sort of course?

Western Power Emergency Crews do the same course as the FESA Firefighters, its called "drive under emergency conditions".

I think this is what the HERO's will get.

Theres no legal requirement to do a course to drive under 'emergency' conditions. When it comes to the crunch, it really comes down to common sense..

The national competencies on it however, are things such as "Drive Vehicles Under Operational Conditions" PUAVEH 001A and "Drive Fire Suppression Vehicles Under Operational Conditions" FPIL 24A. These are recognized anywhere in Australia.

Last I knew, FESA didnt offer either to their Firefighters..

In NSW the Traffic Emergency Patrol already have RED/BLUE etc. I think its a good idea as it will free up Police from some traffic control duites. This is what the HERO system is based on.

After all this is a Main Roads Resposiblity.

I think they are having a trunking radio fitted but im not sure, I know their getting radios of some sort.

With the Traffic Emergency Patrol crews in sydney, the only time you are able to respond priority or urgent duties is: 1)When the Chief Traffic Operations Controller authorises it 2) Or when the on duty Traffic commander requests/authorises it 3)or when police onsite request it. So they don't respond to all or most jobs under priorty, actually it's quite rare for it to happen. But they are allowed to use red and blue lights to move through and around traffic when approaching an incident site and when moving around an incident site. This can only be done once you sit through a half day or so lecture on priority response etc. Your name then gets put on a list with every other emergency personnel to say you can do urgent duties etc.

the heros do have radios in their vehicles and the police escort section have the same radios in the car so they can access the SCAT system.

Yes there is Ludi, they used to be based in my office until about a month ago. They are now in East Perth Traffic Section and are mainly public servants (tis tis).

If you mean that Police Officers no longer do escorts then I aggree.

yes there still are sworn officers. The OIC and three on secondment from VIS who do a month each on rotation.

At the moment the HERO's dont have radio's, they trialled some for a while and are awaiting the installation of a radio network for them.

saw a hero the otherday only orange lights havent seen them in operation though....

I believe this service is no longer operational.....
