poor reception
I live in Gosnells and have just bought my first scanner.only a cheapie to see if i like it.wow im hooked.its a radio shack pro 68.i get the police/ambos/rail and some security company ok but cannot get 6ar very well at all.i cant even make out what they are sayin most of the time.lots of static.any ideas on getting better reception.
Dick Smith sell aerials which are about 3 times longer than the standard ones. They fit the standard aerial socket.
I bought one a while back for use with my hand-held at the airport and the reception is noticeably better.
Go the external aerial option if your using it at home.
Gav, might be able to tell you more.

Tom's suggestion is a good one. For 6AR, which frequency are you listening to and roughly what area do you live in?lytec wrote:I live in Gosnells and have just bought my first scanner.only a cheapie to see if i like it.wow im hooked.its a radio shack pro 68.i get the police/ambos/rail and some security company ok but cannot get 6ar very well at all.i cant even make out what they are sayin most of the time.lots of static.any ideas on getting better reception.

Lytec,
I'm home now and I just dug out that scanner antenna.
It's made by Mobile One although it's packaged in Dick Smith packaging.
It covers everything from 25-1300MHz and it's 2 1/2 times the length of the standard aerial that my Uniden ubc72xlt came with and the reception difference is huge.
I'd recommend one of these to anyone that is still using their original aerial that doesn't have an external aerial set-up.
At home I have an external antenna and I can get any of the 6 metros channels crystal clear, although ch12/47 are a bit poor.
Cost about $35 from memory, well worth the investment.
cheers
