ALERT LEVEL:

A bushfire ADVICE has been issued for people in the Ferndale area (approximately 8km south-south-west of Balingup) bounded by Hay Rd, Southampton Rd, Nannup-Balingup Rd and the Blackwood River, for a fire which started on private property yesterday afternoon. Approximately 105ha has been burnt.

There are presently no lives or homes threatened by the fire. The Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) will release alerts as the situation changes.

WHAT TO DO:

People living or travelling in the area need to be alert and watch for signs of fire. They also need to be aware of fire and other emergency services personnel working on site and take their advice.

BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR:

The fire is currently contained but burning out of unburnt areas is being conducted. This will result in smoke in the vicinity.

WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING:

DEC fire crews and local brigades are on the scene working to make it safe.

ROAD CLOSURES:

No roads are closed but motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully due to smoke.

AGENCY RESPONSIBLE:

DEC is now managing the fire after the Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup asked the department to take control at 11 o’clock last night.

KEEP UP TO DATE:

Call 1300 657 209, visit www.dec.wa.gov.au, www.fesa.wa.gov.au, or listen to local radio news bulletins.
