They have allocated a number of VHF-Hi frequencies but as yet no UHF ones. It remains to be seen if they will:

* Use the 420-430Mhz ex-amateur band

Some people here have seen one, but not me, yet

The new radios are dual band (VHF and UHF) and are able to automatically cross-band repeat between bands. They look like very sweet radios!

Thanks Gavin - I won't hold my breath for them to be installed then...

They are AWESOME radios - they can work monoband VHF or UHF, dual band TX, dual band RX or even act as a repeater.

The new radios have one head and two bodies . I have used and operated three that were in service for demonstration. Two were mounted in briefcases with the antennas on the briefcase as well . The radios have digital if strips that have a very high rejection ratio . With the antennas as close as they were there was only 0.8 db desensing (brilliant) .

Motorola and Tait were the ones discussed but at the time they were waiting for other prototypes to become available. Each radio had 160 channels and included VHF MARINE. The radios as mentioned before have cross band repeat and the ability to tx and rx at the same time ie you can broadcast on either vhf or uhf or vhf and uhf. They can be used in conjunction with uhf cb .What can happen at a incident is the radio set up to crossband to vhf repeaters via el cheapo uhf handhelds .
To my knowledge they are not looking at 420/430 Mhz but using existing Ses Uhf allocations in conjunction with additional vhf channels.

The new metro Frequency is already registered with the ACMA- Australian Communications and media Authority. This is one new frequency for the whole metro area and it is


472.075

Also note FESA- Fire & Emergency Services Authority of Western Australia, is not using the frequency yet and are still working with the VHF low Band AM radio frequency.

I don't think so. It's a 5W simplex channel. My guess would be fireground handhelds or firestation paging.
