Really Random Question...

Could a Career station in a metropolitan area just have something like a GPA Single Cab & a LT giving a total crew of four?

Could a station like this be seen as a station that primarly backs up larger surrounding stations on a fireground either MVA, DBA or Bush fire?

I know the likes of Bassendean / Guilford who are VFRS have a LP & LT

Mmmm probably not, certainly not many people would be very happy if they were only backup to everything. Yes I realise some appliances are mostly backup appliances such as the Heavy Rescues. If you keep all stations having the same sorts of equipment/appliances then it's easier to transfer, between stations.

Bassedean get's turned out quite regularly. Just the other day I saw them coming back from doing something. It's the vollie stations like Bassendean 2nd and Guildford who unfortunately don't get many turn outs. I reckon though if their LP's were upgraded, to new HSR's they would get more members because of the general rule of attraction...shiny things attract people. They would then be able to get crews quicker and hopefully get an even faster response time. With greater efficiency then they'd be called out more often. My theory and hopes for the guys and gals anyway.

Having said that - Bassendean 2nd do quite a few standby jobs at Gloucester Park when they have Fireworks planned.

Even though there is the odd scrub fire, think the guys do a great job. 8)

Excellent PR opportunity...with a new truck I'm sure they'd be noticed even more...bribe the announcers to mention they're vollies and have their new truck etc. More people will go look, and hopefully ask only a couple of questions, sign the dotted line and get addicted :P.

Show me the pad!

What is furious is I'm over in the western suburbs there is no VFRS or BFS to join.... Wouldnt mind putting on the jacket, sliding down the pole and wizzing out of the station lights and sirens blaring....

I doubt it has much to do with what appliances or number of members they have... more that both are located well within the gazetted fire district and probably should (and probably will be) closed down..

Last time I drove past Guildford it was single story, so is Duncraig and Midland career stations. Bassendean probably is too...Sorry to dissappoint but I doubt you'd get a pole to slide down.

Granted, however I still think there should be the oppotunities for that area. I'd love for Darlington to get some red trucks, but unfortunately everyone at the station wants to just do BFS and have no interest in the structural side of things.

Well true Chris, its not all about that... Generalised thinking... Sure when the buzzer goes off people must get a kick knowing that they will save a life or something along the lines

I'm in Leederville, work in Perth...

Not sure, ever worked a campaign bush fire? By about the second week it's a job and the adrenaline only gets going when its really needed. I suspect the same would happen for career crews in all the services.

The biggest kick for me would be knowing you'd done a job well and saved someones life or property, and you can get that as BFS, VFRS, or member of the surf lifesaving club or marine rescue or SJA, WAPOL etc just as you could in FRS.
