Re: SES discussion
Apparently the City of Melville want CCTV in their shire, so they decided to get a independent assessor in to look though the council operations yard (where Melville SES is based) and work out where would be a suitable spot for the CCTV ops room. The assessor walked in and saw MELSES ops room and thought, hmmm, this looks underused!
so we got into a fight over how much we use our ops room and many suggestion of phoning up that assessor during a major storm were bought up.

Let us know how it goes. You do have some friends in the council?
Re: SES discussion
Will do, and yes we have some very good allies in the council. I have a feeling that its died down at the moment because we haven't heard much about it lately. I also think that FESA have tried sticking up for us.

Re: SES discussion
FESA have started rolling out the new vehicle radios for SES units. we were introduced to ours at training tonight. Very swanky. They have all the channels in em that you could ever need. only prob is that the VHF antenna is too high, it clips our door on the way out of the shed and it will get ripped off on the first 4wd day. we decided to unbolt it and lay it down as it is mounted on the sideof the roof rack (because we probly wont need it......ever)

Re: SES discussion
'eh get used to it. The roller doors for Darlington station are lower than our antenna's and so long as I've been there, (longer than a year) we haven't broken one.

Re: SES discussion
This antenna aint got much flex in it at all, and we don't really need it, its just there because then its standard across the entire services. that's y we decided to lay it down. but all in all the radios seem good units. bit of a stupid spot for the box though. under one of the seats in the back, so as soon as someone gets in and puts the toe of their boot under, there goes your radio.

Re: SES discussion
The way the BOM works for many things is they give basic services and information for free and more advanced services you buy. There's heaps of information on their site, including how to FTP data files and how to interpret them. I spent hours reading stuff until my eyes popped out. The data files are readable text but can be processed by computer applications. This is an app I wrote. The lower window is the precis for the last 24 hours. The upper window is the forecast for the next 7 to 8 days. More info is shown in tooltips when you move the cursor over dates and values. That information is all free and downloadable. This app only uses one data file for the forecast and one file for each hour of precis. There's hundreds more data files available. Sorry about the quality.. didn't convert from BMP to JPG too well.

Great to hear that an SES tracker dog found the missing elderly lady in Karrinyup yesterday.
Article..... http://www.thewest.com.au/default.aspx? ... tID=142915
And so storm season begins for the hundreds of SES vollies. So all of you out there, stay dry, stay safe and HURRY UP AND WAIT.
