A proposal has been placed with the Shire of Mundaring, by the operators of the Erickson Aircrane (the big orange one), to place a helipad and facilities in Stoneville, so as to relocate the Aircrane's operations from Jandakot to Stoneville. The proposal is open for public comment until August 27th.
See the proposal here: http://www.mundaring.wa.gov.au/news/Lis ... lic%2Easpx

It will be interesting to see what comments come back from the residents of Stoneville. If I lived up that way, I would be more than happy to have it there during summer

From the people I've spoken to (including a local newspaper journo), that seems to be common. It would seem a lot of people are being pragmatic about it and saying generally that for the inconvenience of maybe 1 or 2 helicopter movements most days, they would happily have lives and property better protected.

Almost everything quoted in that article, except the comment from DFES, has been lifted straight from the proposal to the Shire of Mundaring.

The proposal to base the Aircrane in Stoneville has been withdrawn and is no longer under consideration by the Shire of Mundaring.

There is going to be 6 Bell 212's over for this summers season. 4 based at Jandakot (+skycrane) and 2 down at Bunbury. Helicopters New Zealand did not win the tender and the Helicopters are being packed up by the looks of it. Also the S61's are not returning.

Helitak just a minor thing but they are 214's not 212's they are being supplied by McDermott aviation

I was told 212's, At least it will be something different. I can't wait for all the ground controllers to get all confused as there is no S/O riding shotgun any more.

Here is a link to a short clip RE the 214s that are coming to WA for a 3(+2) season contract.

They will head out in pairs. These will then be followed by a third helicopter with the air attack (SO) supervisor inside.

Helitak- it will give the GC a chance to hone their skills as in the past the on board SO or Air Attack Supervisors have tended to run the show with minimal input from GC's.

I predict a bit of chaos early in the season as we all get used to the different machines and in particular the pilots.

Good to see the forum seems to be getting back on track after a couple of offbeat threads.

Considering that there has been no official notification as to the Helicopters this season, I can tell you right now there will be a lot of people caught off guard.
