Western Australian Emergency Radio Network (WAERN) is a 20 million dollar new project that will enable a frequency all emergency services can use, thats my reading of the following report, second page, top paragraph

Very interesting, but i think its to be used when police fire and ses have to work together in a single operation otherwise it would be hectic

I've seen a demo of it at a Leaders' Forum recently and it works well.

I'd like to seem em in action too. The cross-band repeat ability looks really cool!

Sure is. Each radio can act like a repeater so if we had enough vehicles and radios one person could chat on UHF at Steep Point and chat to someone in Queensland by making a chain of repeaters across the country.
