Been hearing the helitacs b4 take of giving the code IRENE- jus like in Black Hawk Down. Im wondering exactly what it means, its got something to do with taking off. Maybe its aviation code for something?

JG-103 - thats what it means in Greek, but haven't yet confirmed what it means in the means of aviation.

Irene could mean that they are "Ready to take off" or "Ready for the Mission" - ??? :?:  No idea - i am sure someone will enlighten us

Could it have been the word 'rising'?

I've flown with navy and RAAF chopper pilots and, unlike pilots from civilian backgrounds, some would say 'rising' or 'coming up' on the intercom as they were about to lift off.
