The WAERN solution has three components:
· Moving all FESA and Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) radio
communications to the Very High Frequency (VHF) radio band for regional and remote areas and
Ultra High Frequency (UHF) for the Perth CBD area;
· Introducing a multi-functional dual band mobile radio; and
· Implementing a Radio Over Internet Protocol network.

Are they talking about the fireground channels
FRS 1: 519.625 MHz (UHF Fireground channel 1)
FRS 2: 519.900 MHz (UHF Fireground channel 2)
or are they new channels?

Good question. The new radios can do FRS1/FRS2 as well as the Emergency Channel A and B ( http://warsug.info/viewtopic.php?t=745 ) simplex channels. That suggests the UHF radios have a fairly impressive RX/TX range from 457MHz to 520MHz - possibly greater!

What we don't know is what frequencies the UHF metro network will be. SES use bits and pieces of 468MHz so Perhaps FESA will be using the 468MHz VKI channels now that the police mostly don't use it in the metro area, but that's just my guess...

Presently the UHF channels consist of CB (40 channels set as simplex plus the 8 repeater channels set as duplex), the SES channels (20), Emergency Services A & B plus FRS channels A & B. There hasn't been any discussions I know of that have indicated an expansion of this system.

They haven't even rolled out radios all over the state so I think an expansion of the UHF channels will be some time yet.
