Hi all,
For my personal information, that I do not know I have come here to ask a couple of questions relating to a non-fiction book I am writing in my spare time. I want to get as much information correct as possible.
A couple of questions / idea's of what I think is current
Perth Central Fire station has current [ x ] amount of fire - fighters on at any current shift. Is three rotation shifts every 24hours?
Perth Central currently comprises of the following units?
- Medium Pumper x 2? [1 x Series 3, 1 x Series 4]
- Heavy Pumper x 1
- Bronto skylight CLP1
- Incident Control Vehicle
- Line Rescue
[This is what I can see when walking past during weekdays, there is a ute and a van which I am unsure of]
I have heaps of questions though I'd thought I'd start with some very basic questions to see if people are willing to help me out.
I am not anyway lined with any emergency group, though follow with great passion and I am thinking about joining a volley station soon when current time permits!
I understand if you are unable to provide such information I seek. I hope that I shall be able to gain on everyone's knowledge.

That all depends on who you get to answer the questions though...bomber, not sure if is it combined, thought it was Combination (easiest to stick to CLP, or aerial appliance). The model of Bronto apparatus fitted to the truck (the actual ladder platform part), is called a Bronto Skylift, they are a European company, google and you can see more.
As for the pumper allocation, there is always at least a Heavy Pumper (HP2), and a Series IV MPHR, the third pump seems to vary a bit, but usually a Series IV, not III. I think they get stuck with a spare alot though.
Shifts - all career stations are on the 10/14 roster, where each platoon works 10 hour day shift for 2 days, then 14 hour night shift for 2 nights, and then 4 days off.
I'd recommend reading a few of the historical books, some of which can be purchased through the museum, you would probably have to contact the FESA library whilst the museum is beig renovated.

there are classes between firefighter and senior firefighter. I think they are based on your current level of study towards senior firefighter.3rd class to 1st class. i'm a bitmuddled there. maybe wes could help out?

There are several books from ex-Firefighters and Officers, as well as historians and researchers, based on the WAFB and FRS. There's a good chance there are also some BFB/BFS based books out there. Note that som of these 'books' aren't the flashy sorts that you see alot of these days. They are often more of a historical account.
I purchased a few from the Museum, but as I mentioned, you may be able to get hold of them through the FESA library, or you may be able to get hold of the Historical group by phone or email, if you can't wait for the museum to reopen.

The leading firefighter rank that was eluded to earlier is still a rank within the FRS career ranking structure. It has though due to natural attrition become almost non exsitent.
It was a rank in the country stations before stations officers were introduced. he was the senior man and took on that role.
Also with respect to ranks there is a change of eppaulettes in the Career FRS
3rd class, 2nd class, 1st class level 1 - crossed axes - first 3 years
1st class level 2 and 3 - crossed axes and 1 hook- years 4 and 5 of service
Senior FF - Crossed axes with 2 hooks- after 5 yrs
SO- 2 impellers
DO-3 impellers

Rescue one rolled through the gloaming, the road ahead strobing red and blue, puddles of light swirling across the tarmac and the sidewalks and the storefronts. Paterson liked the view from the cab better after dawn, the flashes and reflections, the streaky contrast of sharp colours against the muted gray of the sky.
