News I have is that DEC will shut down their VHF mid band system in October and they will migrate to the new VFH high band (WAERN) system.

Shut it down or stop using it? I thought the idea with WAERN was to keep the mid band system linked to the associated WAERN channel?

Shut down. They run parallel for a time until the high band system is fully functional then the mid band system is closed off.

Edit. Could be only for the Great Southern. To be confirmed.

Just a side note, I noticed 78.075Mhz (usually Wanneroo repeater for those of you up that way) seems to be re-broadcast in the tunnel. Couple of times this week I've gone through it and usually 78.075 is scratchy at best past the city but it was crystal clear, right through the tunnel.

The 'Standard' BA channel is FRS 01 between ECO and crew, thats for stage 1 BA operations.

Not 100% Correct. some stations use FRS CH1 and Others use FRS CH2. this is to stop them clashing if there are a few structure fires around the same area

i think buddah is right, they alternate the channels between stations and FRS 1 & 2 are just for comms between crews, could be for DBA's, BA at a job, if their doing pumping operations or if their driving around. the other day i heard wangarra discussing what they were having for lunch.

if you look on the ACMA register you will see either frs 1 or 2 will be licenced to the fire station.

most activity i have heard has been on ch 2
