What is the definition of mopping up vs blacking / blackening out please?

Blackening out an area.

Making sure that nothing has any hot spots or is releasing any embers.

Pretty much making sure the area is dead from any source of heat.

Blackening out is a way of mopping up a fire.

Small fires, this is OK. With large fires, there's usually an area which you blacken out from all sides as it's not practical to blacken out the whole thing.

they both mean the same thing just depends on the person.
