Under the WA Bushfires Act, it must be proved the fires were likely to damage property or injure people.

This does not currently include damage to bushland, although the act is likely to be reviewed after a volunteer firefighter last week was acquitted on six of seven charges of deliberately lighting bushfires.

I also thought that they would be recovering the costs to put out the fires... thats a stupid law... so its ok to light a fire as long as it doesn't damage property or injure people..
does that include if a firefighter gets hurt on the fire ground? or damage to an appliance?[/i]
