Do any of our Fire Stations have the Firemen's Pole and is it used on a regular basis?

Perth Central does - but for OH&S - reasons don't tend to use them any more - rather - they resort to the stairs located in the middle section of the Fire House. I have a pic of it for you here;

One of Perth Fire Station's poles. (They have 6 from memory.)

OH&S is bollocks some times, use the poles it's more fun and it's quicker!

Won't matter how quick you are if you land badly and sprain an ankle or something.. then you're no use to anyone

From memory, the poles are blocked off at the top with a barrier?

I agree - but I guess - OH&S takes into account on the "what if situations" - what if the firefighter, slipped down the pole and rolled his ankle on a Fire Call out???

Anyways, that's what was said to us, when we toured the Fire House - last year.

I'm thinking a knee would be worse - just look at the number of footy players who are out for a season after doing an anterior cruciate ligament.

What about when the stumble down the stairs, and one of them trips, I know I've occasionally unintentially stumbled on stairs...the potential for injury is still there on stairs and infact could be worse, as the could stumble and knock a person in front of them.

When you look at it practically there are 2 quick ways to get down to the trucks the pole, and the stairs each has its hazards, but why block off and prevent the use of one of these methods, when it isn't necessarily more hazardous than the other, hell the pole is like an icon when it comes to fire stations!

Our bridgade went on a tour of perth station one night and they told us that they use the poles as it is still the fastest and safest way to get down to the vehicles.
More crew have been hurt racing down stairs than on the poles.

The majority of people who received injurys from the poles where not fire fighters but people pretending to be..
