Man charged over Claremont fire in 2004

Post by WPXZBP »

The Arson Squad has charged a 21-year-old man over a fire which destroyed BC the Body Club in Claremont in 2004.

It is alleged the man, who was a juvenile at the time, entered the building on Stirling Highway through a wire fence while the building was being renovated.

Police say he set fire to a pile of material on the first floor which spread into the ceiling insulation.

The building was later demolished, and the site is being developed into offices and residential apartments.

The man was arrested after information was given to Crimestoppers.

He has been charged with criminal damage by fire, and burglary.

He is due to appear in the Perth Children's Court next week.

So... let me get this right... because he was 17 or so at the time of the offence, he has to go through the Children's court?? And if he's put away, does that mean he goes to somewhere like Rangeview or serve time in an adult prison now he's 21?

Good point chicky never thought of that problem, are the penalties the same for children/adults in relating to that offence.
