LED lightbars definately do a good job at being seen but they can be a real pain to follow at night. Rear LED's are nice and bright but being LED's the beam angle isn't as wide. Interesting thing I have noticed recently with few appliances on the fire ground is there is a lot of variation in the flash rate of the LED's, especially our LT as unlike most others ours does strobe. (mind you makes it easier to find ours on the fire ground)

http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/breaking/9892617/new-ladder-takes-firies-to-new-level/ wrote:WA firefighters have a new high-tech tool for tackling blazes - a 32m ladder to not only allow daring rescues and fight fires but to supply invaluable computer analysis of an inferno.

The appliance, which gives firefighters access to structures up to six storeys high, also has video and infra-red cameras which provide information on the location and spread of a fire and a burning building's structural condition.

Fire and Emergency Services Authority chief operations officer Craig Hynes said the ladder appliance would greatly improve the agency's firefighting abilities.

Its sophisticated computer system has three display screens, including one in the cage at the top of the ladder, one at the turntable and one at the tail end of the vehicle.

The footage streamed from the camera attached to the cage can be seen from the cage and the turntable.

Mr Hynes said it had many advantages over their older ladder appliances, which included giving firefighters easier access to tight spaces

"It is smaller and lighter than existing ones, making it easier for firefighters to manoeuvre and operate in confined city streets," he said.

"The larger platform can carry loads of up to 500kg, allowing for easier movement of firefighters and can safely accommodate a stretcher or wheelchair.

"This acquisition represents significant improvements to current aerial appliances which will help firefighters protect the community."

He said the appliance could spray up to 3800 litres of water a minute, allowing it to be used in "a variety of structure fires and in specialised applications, including ship firefighting and petroleum storage and industrial fires".
Mr Hynes said it would be kept at Perth Fire Station, where firefighters were being trained to use it.

Does this new CLP mean that there are 3 in the metro area or has 1 of the other 2, which were based at perth and freo been decommisioned.

My money would be on it replacing Perth CLP 1. Freo's CLP still has a few years left in it, and I think the pros like the old Scania TTL around for the moment...
