Fire Commissioner Wayne Gregson has made the case for taking over responsibility for WA’s volunteer bushfire brigades in what would be the biggest shake-up of rural emergency services in decades.

But transferring 26,000 volunteers at 560 brigades from their local government to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services umbrella will be fiercely contested in sections of the bush.
