Emergency Services Minister Joe Francis announced today that property settlement is now completed on the site earmarked for a new career fire station in West Perth.
“The new $19 million station will be built at 27-33 Carr Street, West Perth, and will service the Perth CBD and surrounding suburbs,” Mr Francis said.
“In recent years demands on the existing Perth fire station have increased significantly and more residential and commercial construction in the city means this trend will continue.
“The Perth City Link, Elizabeth Quay and other projects will see the construction of more high-rise buildings in the CBD, and with higher density comes higher demands on the fire service.
“A new station on the western side of the CBD will ease the pressure on the existing station in East Perth.
“This is a sensible planning decision and reflects the State Government’s commitment to provide sufficient emergency services to protect the city’s CBD, as well as suburban and regional communities.”
The new fire station will have three appliances and will cater for up to 12 firefighters per shift.
The planning and design process for the West Perth station has started and is expected to be completed in 2017.
A PROPOSED new fire station on an old burnt factory site has ignited residents’ fears about noise, pollution, loss of privacy and lack of State Government transparency.
Last August, the State Government said increased traffic congestion and the need for faster fire response times meant a station was needed on the Carr Street, West Perth site, which was destroyed by fire in 2012 and initially zoned for a six-storey 120-apartment complex.
I think 3 pumps are at Vincent. 2 are from Daglish and 1 from Perth (now called Vincent). Daglish is currently closed for renovations my sources tell me.
