State Alert’s subscription not available this fire season

Post by colin »

Interesting - I got this in my Inbox this morning ...
Dear StateAlert Subscriber

On November 30 2012 Western Australia will be moving to the national Emergency Alert system to send community warning messages.. In adopting the national system the State Alert’s subscription service, previously available in WA, will no longer be operating. The State and Commonwealth will be working to include this functionality across Australia as soon as possible.

Messages will still be sent to all phones that have a customer address in the affected area and there will be no change to this service.

With the introduction of location based technology over the next year the new system will be able to target and send messages to mobile phones traveling through an affected area.

As the State Alert’s subscription service will not be available during this bushfire season you may need to review your emergency plans to ensure you can access key information during an emergency.

Sources of information during an emergency may include the FESA website (http://www.fesa.wa.gov.au), Emergency Phone Line (1300 657 209), the media, social media, emergency broadcasts and local community networks.

Every second counts during an emergency so always be ready to act for your own safety, with or without a warning, If a life threatening emergency occurs call 000.

For more information about Emergency Alert and how to develop an emergency survival plan, visit the FESA website or the frequently asked questions page.
Colin.
