Post by written_ficton »

I witnessed a Toyota Landcruiser with red beacons with the wording "Emergency Fire Escort" Does anyone know what this outfit is?

They are oversize vehicle pilots who have the contract for escorting plant for FESA

They are not exclusively Fire Escort

I'm pretty sure they are used when oversized heavy equipment such as front end loaders and bulldozers are needed urgently on a fire ground

  The CLPs are Priority 1 equiped Emergency Vehicles that can operate under their own steam, and would not require escorting!!

I dont know if FESA use them that much but about 6 years ago DEC had to start using them every time they moved their dozers and loaders around at night.
One of them would have simply put on Emergency Fire Escort stickers but it wouldn't have been a directive from anyone, at the end of the day they are just pilot vehicles but they are on call for DEC over summer.

I have met and spoken to the operator of one of these vehicle. Have pics i will upload soon. Most of you are on the money. They are part of a vehicle pilot business used primarily for escorting oversized vehicles. Several years ago they formed an MOU with Main Roads, WAPol, FESA and DEC to provide escort services for oversized loads such as trucks with loaders and dozers etc, to be able to move through road blocks and areas of road closures and restricted access.

Gents, does anyone know if (private) pilot vehicles are permitted to disobey red signals at traffic lights... like WAPOL traffic escort wardens do?

No they are not

Only when they have a WAPOL Escort (and these are Police officers not wardens) can they go through the intersection on RED

Thanks AO11912, so the WAPOL vehicles with 'Traffic Escort' on the side are driven by police officers, not wardens?
