They are police officers and there call sign is TE 45* in the Nissian Patrol.
Years ago they were police officers but now they are all non sworn members like the multi nova operators.

That's been the case for about 5 or more years.

Yehhh I thought that was the case. Only their OIC is a police officer, right? The rest are appointed as traffic escort wardens under s7 of the RTA and the Road Traffic (Wardens) Regulations?

When I lived in merredin they used to come in from Bruce rock, they had normal police car escorts, it's only when I moved to Perth I saw the Nissan traffic escort vehicles (I believe they used to use the designation kilo)

I've done pilot work, we had to follow the road rules like every one else, your just there to warn on comming vehicles of and approaching wide load, or in the case of rear, prevent vehicles from over taking if it's not safe, which they still try.

They are part of a vehicle pilot business used primarily for escorting oversized vehicles. Several years ago they formed an MOU with Main Roads, WAPol, FESA and DEC to provide escort services for oversized loads such as trucks with loaders and dozers etc, to be able to move through road blocks and areas of road closures and restricted access.
Found them...

This particular vehicle has amber lights. There are many of these (or similar) "Emergency Fire Escort" vehicles around the state. It is possible that some of them may have red lights.
