Eventually we'll lose them too. Probably not through a deliberate decision to encrypt only, but due to upgrading technology. If, like any service we currently listen to, they go to GSM-R, TETRA or DMR then they'll also be unlistenable.

The introduction of the new WAERN radio frequencies throughout FESA and DEC appliances is analogue, not digital. There is no plan for FESA to move to a digital radio network in the near future.

I do believe and have been told that digital is already in the pipe line aunty eyes. but knowing FESA will probably take an eternity to roll outit out. Give it 3 years and maybe there will be digital

I did say "near future" :) . At a FESA regional forum meeting last weekend, during the presentation about comms, radios and WAERN, the specific question of analogue v digital was raised. We were advised that a project team will be looking at digital in the future, AFTER the roll out and implementation of the new WAERN system was complete. Possibly 2-3 years till project starts.

Clearly put...Thankyou auntys_eyes. Got the same information from the same forum. Should end any speculation on this. We are just getting use to using the new WAERN units in all our appliances.

IMHO if FESA go digital it will prevent some arson to a certain degree.

I imagine there would be idiots out there that light fires on purpose, run and hide then sit there, scanner in hand laughing and playing with themselves when they hear the fire brigade attending and talking about the fire.

There are some screwed up people out there.

Did they mention WAVE (or ROIP) at all? That's supposed to be happening sooner than later.

ROIP is definitely on the horizon. Time will tell when it gets up and running.
