Kalamunda bush fire - Issued: Tuesday, 12 December 2006 3:02 PMmeg wrote:Kalamunda - what streets? Just wondering if it's near Gooseberry Hill?
A bush fire is burning in the area of Kalamunda between West Terrace and Simeon Road. There is the potential for lives and/or property to be at risk.
FESA advises residents in Kalamunda to put their bushfire ready action plans in to effect.
Those who are choosing to stay at home that they should now prepare for the passage of a bush fire. Residents deciding to go early should do so now.
Unfortunately there are two properties alight in Persimmon Place.
One house is confirmed to have been destroyed. The second has sustained significant damage. No further information on those fires is available at present. Both fires are believed to have been started from evaporative air-conditioners.
Residents are advised to turn evaporative air-conditioners off, but keep water running in the system. Be aware of ember attacks and prepare for spot overs.
Residents in Persimmon Place are still under direct threat. Brine Road and Snowball road are also at risk.
Residents in North Kalamunda should still be on alert.
Kalamunda residents who have not taken the necessary preparations or believe they may not cope with the stress of the fire will improve their safety by going now.
Twelve crews of firefighters and emergency services personnel are on the scene. Two firefighters have been treated for smoke inhalation.
Two fixed wings and three helitacs have been deployed to protect crews and property.
FESA understands that there are a number of roads closures in place and motorists should avoid the area if possible. Further clarification should be sought from Police.
Residents should take advice from Emergency Services personnel on site if the situation changes. Members of public wishing to find out more can contact FESA on 1300 657 209.

Thanks all - apparently it's about 1km or so from my workmates place - I've told her to head home...Fastlane wrote:Gooseberry Hill is other side of Kalamunda Rd to the fire. Havent heard anything of the fire going over the road.doogues71 wrote:yes it is near gooseberry hill
Meg, its about 1.5km's up Kalamunda Rd from the shops, so nowhere near the Zig-Zag etc.
