ok
1st and 2nd depends which station it is as some stations have 1 cfrs and 1 vfrs at the same sttion eg:rockingham 1st is career 2nd is vfrs i think also daglish and welshpool are the same
perth 1st 2nd and 3rd are all career 3rd is the "hrt" 2nd is perth 2nd punmp and lt and 1st is perth 1st pump and lt and they also have a few sepcialty vehciels there such as lrv and a few others they would have cre to man these in case of emegency hence the reason why ther is probably 8 or 9 maybe 10 guys on one shift at perth and fremantle
usually perth 1st will turnout and to most dbas u here 2md bcking up or the other way around coz its funair for 2nd coz they always get stood down to false alarms also if thers another fire in perths area 2nd can attend because ther may be so many dbas due to the large number of buildings then kensington or daglish or caremont etc might back them up then get stood down
coorect me if im wrong but im pretty sure im right

A few notes..
Perth 3rd is currently a Medium Pump Heavy Rescue appliance, however, this wont necessarily always be the case. The vehicle isnt a 'heavy rescue tender' - that appliance disappeared a while ago and had nothing BUT rescue gear (ie, no pump, no water). The MPHR is a more general appliance that happens to carry more specialised rescue gear than the other pumps do (note, *ALL* FRS career pumps carry rescue gear).
The numbering is to seperate different crews and appliances when you hav a station that has more than 1 pump - Rockingham, Armadale, Bassendean (though you never hear them) and Mandurah all have a '2nd' which is Volunteer FRS. The rest of the '2nds' around the metro area are career. Perth station is the only station with a 3rd (at least in metro area). Each of these crews is made up of 1 Station Officer & 3 Firefighters (once again VFRS may be different).
As for turnouts.. it also depends who is where at the time and who is doing what at the time.. You often hear 2nd being used as 'first turnout'.. isnt necessarily a hard-and-fast rule.

I'm with you on this one Tom.that would be bloody right I missed another open dayTom wrote:G'day fastlane,
It was 1QBA994 I saw whizzing up the fwy a couple of weeks back.
I also have seen 1QBA995 going FCC's last week. The grey front looks grand.
Thanks to the people that knew about the Open Day and didn't advise us other interested members also.

G'day firefly000,
Off the top of your head how many appliances are at Perth?
According to my records they have 4 Series 4 Scanias.
1QBA994 and 1QBA995
1BOC894 MPHR73 Perth 2nd
1BWC567 MP74 which I think is either Perth 1st or 3rd.
That's 4 plus that Bronco Skylift rig and an older Scania or International truck think it's 8AS000.
cheers
Tom

Need to watch your typing errors chrissss, makes it hard for some of the non-firies to understand.
Another thing, the 2nd's also go to man other stations when the brigade is busy at a incident. Like when Hope Valley is at a 3rd alarm scrub fire, fremantle 2nd will travel down to hope vally's station and man it until they are available again. Dunno exactly how it works, i can only presume they do this for busy stations, but im sure fastlane or some of the other knowledgable fire fighters on here will know.
