1st alarm:Single brigade incident for frs just 1 pump and lt and for bfs wateva vehicles they may have for some brigades(like us) they may have 4 or 5 vehicles ther and its still only 1st alarm.

2nd alarm:generally means just vehicles from that shire like if kwinana south would get a fire then they call just 2nd alarm we'd turn out and usually be able to handle it..for frs its usually the next station so for hopevalley it'd be kwinana and rockingham 1st dual turnout..even though there is more then 2 or 3 brigades there frs some times classify it as a 2nd alarm with extra resources.i have no clue as to why they do it when its actually a 3rd alarm but maybe its coz they'll turn out the icv when it isnt needed.

3rd alarm:generally means all vehicles from that shire plus more from shires or stations surrounding, the belmont icv usually gets turned out to all frs incidents bigger then 2nd alarm. in a bushfire situation for frs it could be 3rd alarm and they may have 5 stations there, thats only 5 4wds.if they call in the bushies in some instances there could be 10 4wds from 5 stations.but they dont have that mentality(not taking a stab at anyone..just saying)

4th alarm:supposedly biggest call you can get and this is generally when the shit hits the fan. usually every vehicle available in the surrounding area will be summoned to this.

5th alarm:as far as ive been taught is not an official call but i have heard it quite a few times. this would classify multiagencys with campaign icvs and a very large scale which will need large amounts of resources think dwellingup, forrestdale, whiteman park, fremantle hotel. where in bush fire situations brigades from very far out of the metro area wer called in n just gave it everything.

4.4: nothing seen on arrival,investigating.

6.6: minor incident generally 1st or 2nd alarm

8.8: major incident 3rd or 4th alarm

im sure ppl will correct me but thats my version of it.

cheers

Are the MDTs having a more unreliable time than usual? Most jobs are going out over pager or voice now...

4-4 first appliance has arrived, no sign of incident, crews investigating, further message will follow
6-6 first appliance has arrived, incident as reported and minor in nature, crews getting to work, further message will follow
8-8 first appliance has arrived, incident is major in nature and crew is getting to work, further message will follow

These are just arrival codes. The OIC should then make a classification within five minutes after he/she has sized it up and then call it a 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc alarm. Classification is often done with the arrival code to start mobilising extra appliances if its obviously large, or small to stand down other appliances that might be on route.

Believe you can have up to a brigade alarm or 6th alarm, have even heard it called a brigade alarm over the PA system on turnout. Well look up later when back on shift.

Yes, they are decommisioning the MDT's for the next few months to sort out some of the problems. As a result we now carry a pager in the pump as there is no MDT. The pager is just the secondary device with turnouts now being given over the radio if off station.
