Re: General fire discussions
Level 2 refreshments for 50 people. appears to be under control.
Re: General fire discussions
It's interesting how far the career fire and rescue crews are being sent this year, obviously Margaret River is a given however Ellenbrook, Butler, Joondalup 2.4, Malaga and Fremantle 1st being sent to a 60 hectare fire north of Bindoon... It's not a bad thing but I could see it being an interesting summer if a large contingent of career guys are being sent out of the Metro area and then something starts closer to home.

Re: General fire discussions
There are still less resources in the metro area, It's just an interesting observation that FESA seemed to have changed their procedures for mobilising resources to areas well outside metro areas.
Re: General fire discussions
Was wondering the same thing, even if there were properties under threat which is what they normally get turned out for, they only carry 1000Lt of water really depend on hydrants for water supply as tanks on properties are sometimes 4wd access. Was strange that brigades like west swan were turned out much later than those further away when these kinds of fire they are trained and experienced in fightingnewbie wrote:There are still less resources in the metro area, It's just an interesting observation that FESA seemed to have changed their procedures for mobilising resources to areas well outside metro areas.

Probably to get crews on the road quickly and hit it hard and fast knowing that there are 3.4's etc on the way. In light of the exposure and press at the moment they would need to be seen as throwing everything at it quickly.Wazza Y wrote:Was wondering the same thing, even if there were properties under threat which is what they normally get turned out for, they only carry 1000Lt of water really depend on hydrants for water supply as tanks on properties are sometimes 4wd access. The career guys would turn out quicker than us and they can also head home once more resources get there. Also most of the new pumps carry 1400lts plus the 500lt from the LT, so really they are not far behind a 2.4. Yes the pumps may not be able to get off road but if the fire is that big/fast, one 3.4/2.4 can't really do that much if it gets there first anyway, much like the LT's.
The latest FESA alert said that the crews saved 3 houses, so obviously they were needed for asset protection, something that some can do up till the point that there is an internal fire and BA and structural firefighting is needed, hence the need to send the career boys.
Re: General fire discussions
I think the fixed wings and helitacks were deployed elsewhere so with those guys out of the picture that might also have explained the career guys and the need for a quicker response.
Re: General fire discussions
I agree with the career brigades turning out faster than us vollies as we are either at home or at work so if they need to get people out of burning houses ect they can arrive, get set up and enter a lot faster than probably any VFS/VFRS brigade as they are better trained and usually more experienced but i'm still confused as to the decision to send Freo 1st and not just send a closer FRS brigade and have Freo go to their station as what happened with Ellenbrook ect.bohong wrote:Probably to get crews on the road quickly and hit it hard and fast knowing that there are 3.4's etc on the way. Also Bullsbrook's 3.4 has BA and structural but being in a high fire risk area they don't like us leaving our area on days like this which is understandable.
Re: General fire discussions
Chances are that if they sent a closer Brigade they would reduce the firefighting capacity for that area. Freo has 2 shifts, with a number of close Brigades including Claremont and Daglish (2 shifts). Fremantle would not be overly reduced for a fire in that case. That being said, I am not privy to the decision-making process and am only making a suggestion.
Re: General fire discussions
Bombers flew over heading north at about 0730 any idea where they are heading? Obviously a DEC thing

O yeah I saw that but didn't put the two together... 15 hectares and ros at 1km per hour, will be interesting to see how big it gets.
